Strolling through the streets and alleyways you will discover numerous charming details on the carefully restored medieval town houses. But do not overlook the many glass refining businesses which made Rattenberg so well-known as a glass town.

Definitely worth visiting are sights such as the Augustiner Museum, the nailmakers’ houses with the Handicraft Museum, the parish church and the glass blowing workshop in the Kisslinger Haus.

From the Schlossberg castle ruins you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Inn valley. The Schlossberg Plays are held here in July on the romantic open-air stage.

Rattenberg Highlights

Rattenberg Parish Church:

Rattenberg’s parish church stands high above the southern row of houses on the Pfarrgasse. This intrinsically Gothic building is one of the main works of the Hagau Church Masons’ Guild and was built between 1473 and 1506. The inside of the church received its modern appearance in the 18th century. Artistic highlights are the so-called Saint Anne altar in the south choir, the figures of which were in the main decorated by the famous Mondsee sculptor Meinrad Guggenbichler, and also the ceiling frescoes by S. B. Faistenberger and Matthäus Günther. The Notburga chapel to the west of the nave was built as part of the most recent restoration in the 1980s. It houses a beautiful bust of ‘Norburga’, Rattenberg’s patron saint.

Kisslinger Glas:

Since 1820 the very name Kisslinger has been synonymous with traditional. glass refining skills. At the start of the 1930s the engraver Ferdinand Kisslinger came to Rattenberg and founded the current business in 1946.
Each year thousands of visitors from home and abroad follow at first hand the progress of glass from the white-hot oven to the finished product, enjoying a unique opportunity to watch our glass blowers, polishers, engravers and painters engaged in their creative work.
An exhibition room has been built into the mountain where you can view individual collector’s items and artistic glass from the region. and also from Venice and its environs.

Augustiner Museum:

The Augustiner Museum Rattenberg in the former Augustiner Serviten Monastery which was active from 1384 – 1817 is quite unique. The museum was opened on 1st May 1993. Its collections show Tyrolean art treasures from nine centuries, including both exquisite Romanesque and Gothic masterpieces and also examples of religious folk art. More

Nailmakers´ Houses:

With the nailmakers’ houses, which possibly date back to the 12th century, it is the rustic aspect which particularly catches the eye and makes them stand out clearly from the other Rattenberg houses. The façade of this row of houses on the western edge of the town has an enchanting appeal with its sturdy masonry and window frames and portals made of Kramsach marble and it is more than likely that it largely acquired the appearance it has today in the late Gothic era. The inside of the building has also retained its romantic appearance. In the museum visitors can see old parlours and bedrooms with original furnishings, and the lovingly recreated details tell the story of the way of life in centuries past. Numerous pictures and also some rare antiques and display items provide an insight into art and culture in the Tyrol. More
